Target Applications

ASIC/ASSP

Field-Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA)
Most ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) and ASSP (Application Specific Standard Product) designs migrating to 90nm or finer geometries will benefit from Transmeta's semiconductor technologies. Ranging from automotive, communications, consumer, data processing and SOC ASICs semiconductor designs and many others, LongRun2 Technologies often offers a practical way to improve manufacturing distributions, reduce cost, and offer improved specifications to customers.

FPGA vendors can mimic the multi-Vt design techniques utilized by many semiconductor designers. With LongRun2 Technologies, FPGA vendors can dynamically provide bias to smaller executing elements based within an FPGA on the local performance needs. Transmeta proprietary bias voltage distribution can provide the bias voltages with little area overhead compared to metal distribution of bias voltages.

Microprocessors and Computing

Mobile Phone Processors
Transmeta's microprocessor IP, LongRun and LongRun2 Technologies are beneficial to microprocessor designs across the spectrum from server, desktop, and mobile applications. Transmeta's proven microprocessor IP, developed in part from our energy-efficient Crusoe and Efficeon microprocessors can provide benefits to other processor families by increasing performance, enabling dynamic translation, and reducing power consumption. LongRun and LongRun2 technologies are an ideal match to Transmeta microprocessor IP and provide additional benefits for these markets. LongRun2 Technologies are applicable in all types of mobile phones ranging from smart phones to basic phones for emerging markets. To achieve the needed performance requirements for smart phones and the cost requirements for basic phone, mobile phone processors are rapidly migrating to smaller geometry process technologies. However, these geometries incur higher leakage current, impacting battery life, and wider variations, increasing cost. Transmeta's LongRun2 Technologies provide a complete set of solutions that will enable mobile phone processor vendors target these problems to increase the benefit from advanced process technologies.

Graphics Processors

As graphics processors add more features to their products and migrate to finer process geometries, their power consumption is escalating rapidly. Recent designs for high-end graphics processors often consume as much or more power than the processor itself. LongRun2 Technologies, combined with the associated IP blocks, are well-matched to offer benefits for the graphics market to attack this growing power trend.
